We arrived to Maldives on Aug 23rd and took the ferry straight to the Island where we stayed, called Maafushi, the guesthouse called “Summer Villa”. It is a really nice guesthouse, prices are depending on season, but for European guys it is easy to pay. They offer some extra activities like snorkeling, diving, kite surfing, canoeing, fishing etc… prices are from 15 to 50 dollar.A must-do is a diving trip! The underwater world of the Maldives is awesome and the water is so clear, you can see everything! A good point is that the local boats are really cheap. You can reach a lot of islands for only a dollar or.
Food is cheap as well. You have to search for a while for some local restaurants but if you find it you can get a big and tasty meal for 3$ – 4$ dollar. Mostly the local food is similar to Indian and Sri Lankan.
Maybe a good hint is that it’s necessary to do some activities at daytime. If you are stay some days in the Maldives, only chilling at the beach could be getting boring. But if you do a snorkeling or diving trip, this is always the highlight of the day.
Maldives is a very beautiful and friendly place to visit. The locals are helpful and it is still not very commercial and they have many Islands to choose from. We later found out from Ashfam that it is also possible to get Home stays. However these types of accommodations, information’s are not available on the Internet and can only be arranged Via a local contact. If you choose Home stays probably you could get the accommodation charges to something like US$ 20-30 dollars a day.
